This morning I headed out to the horse trails with my wife and a friend again, for my last run for couple of weeks. I’ve had a really strong year of running, and for the most part have been very consistent in continuing to run regularly every single week.
However, I can feel the toll it’s taken on my body, and all the little aches and pains have added up to my choice to take a couple weeks of rest to let the body heal. So for the next two weeks I’m going to take it easy, let things recuperate and rest, and then head back into my winter training schedule. I’m about 95% sure that I’m going to sign up for the Zumbro 50 mile race, which means that I can’t afford to let my cardio fitness drop too far. Two weeks should be enough to let muscles heal, but not drop me too far off track.
I am going to make a concerted effort to do daily stretching during this break. It’s a habit that I know I’m terrible at, but most people can make a good attempt at anything for two weeks. After that I’m sure my discipline will wane, but at least it will keep me doing something during my rest time.
My next run will be my final race of the year, the Reindeer run 5K race. At the end of December I’ll put together a comprehensive blog post on my running from the past year with all of my stats.
