#30daysofbiking 2021 edition

Last year was the first time I was able to join in with the #30daysofbiking event that encourages folks to get out and ride at least a mile every day in April. Because of the pandemic lockdown it was really easy for me to join in and get a streak going. In fact, last year I kept that streak going well in to summer before accidently forgetting to ride one day.

This year was a bit more subdued. I managed to ride every day, however the majority of my rides were short trips around the block to fulfill the challenge. We had an odd year this year for weather in Minnesota with temps staying colder than normal for quite a few days throughout the month. It meant I wasn’t doing as many long adventure rides as the year before, mostly because I was feeling lazy and didn’t want to be cold. Plus, throw in two vaccine shots that had the potential to drag me down. That meant that despite a gangbusters Jan-Mar, my April mileage came in 110 miles lower than 2020.

That doesn’t mean I didn’t have fun though. I still had a few great longer rides (though none of the 20 milers I did last year by this time), and enjoyed being active and out there. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to continue a streak this year as we’re heading out of town to an area where riding wouldn’t be easy to accomplish. However, I know I’ll be back out there as soon as I get back. I have lots of plans for some 50+ milers this year, and want to do more bike packing to cool destinations.

How did your #30daysofbiking go this year? Did you meet your goals? More importantly, did you have fun getting out there and exploring on two wheels?
