That coming-down exhaustion

These past few weeks have been very busy for me both at work and personally. It’s performance review time at work, and so I was proactive and got everything done as early as possible. This meant a lot of very hard work getting a dozen performance reviews written and delivered in just a couple of weeks.

Personally, I’ve been working hard on the UMTR banquet, and now, getting new board members on board for our January retreat that we need to get planned. I’ve also been keeping up with running, biking, the holidays, fixing computers, kid schedule changes, and general changes in mood from the weather. Needless to say, I’m tired.

What’s funny is how you can maintain such a high level of energy for so long, but as soon as you get past some of the tasks you’re working on, your body goes into exhaustion mode. My reviews are done, and the banquet is complete. Therefore, right now by body has decided that all it wants to do is sleep, including my immune system. It feels like I’m fighting stuff off with only half my body reserves putting in any effort.

Thankfully, this is a short week at work and that means a few nice quiet days of relaxing, and doing fun things that don’t have any obligation. So far, December is looking nice and light as well, so that will help with recovery. Even though this might sound like complaining, I’m happy to have these opportunities. It makes life fulfilling, despite a bit tiring at times.
