The family went and saw John Wick 2 today. I was a fan of the first movie, and its amazing fight choreography. John Wick was one of those movies that appealed to anyone who loved the assassin genre. The first movie was a beautiful send up of shooting, car chases, fighting, and bloodshed.
John Wick 2 carries on this tradition in its purest form. It’s violence upon violence in a beautifully shot and choreographed display. John is once again faced with the reality that he can never retire from being a hit man, and once again has to pull a job in his attempt to get out of his old life. Obviously, things don’t go according to plan, and we end up with an international pursuit of epic proportions.
I’m going to put a small SPOILER WARNING here.
How awesome was it that they got Laurence Fishburne to play the crazy old gang leader? The throwback to Matrix was hilarious and amazing, especially since that film was a major shot-em-up as well. My only other spoiler-y comment, is “Why the heck is Wick the only person who can land a headshot?” I get that he’s wearing body armor suits, but not a single bullet comes in contact with his head? Oh well, it is a gratuitous action movie after all.
John Wick 2 is basically more of the same of John Wick 1. It does set up a ton of options for a third movie, and I’m sure it’s already in the works. Despite the obvious telegraphing, it was a ton of fun, and well worth a Sunday matinee.
