After our brewery excursions this past weekend, we hit Crow Wing State Park. Crow Wing State Park is a unique area, as it used to be a bustling frontier town before the railroad came through Brainerd to the north. Additionally, the Native American tribe that lived in the area was also forcibly removed to a reservation; yet another sad chapter in our history.
Within the park are a few buildings that have been restored, but there is also a chapel that was built more recently. This chapel honored Father Francis Xavier Pierz, a missionary who brought the Catholic church to the various Native American tribes in Minnesota and the surrounding area.
I wish the chapel had been open, but I still loved seeing this beautiful little building in the middle of the woods, even from the outside.
