Now that my infected toe is healing, and I’m able to run again it’s time to get back to training for the next race. I ran for the first time on Saturday out at Afton State Park. I managed a nice easy 12 miles, and worked my legs up Meatgrinder Hill. A bunch of other runners were there, and they brought pie and cookies, so that made it even more fun.
Sunday I decided to do a short 4 mile run and then hop on the bike. My wife said she was going to be running for around 3 hours so I decided to see if I could fit in a run, as well as a full ride from Coon Rapids Dam to Elm Creek, around and back. It was really close, but I managed to get in 29 miles of riding, and arrived back at the parking lot just as my wife was finishing her run as well. The timing couldn’t have been any more perfect.
The ride did remind me that I haven’t gone that far on a bike in months, and perhaps I should be starting a bit slower, but I got it done and I was happy with that. Now it’s back to a regular training schedule to get ready for my next 50K, the Spring Superior races.
