Five years ago I joined the Board of Directors for Upper Midwest Trail Runners. I was in love with the sport and its community, and I wanted to be a part of shaping its future. From the outset I volunteered for positions of leadership, taking on the role of Vice President in my first year on the board, and then serving as President for the past 4 years. In that time I’ve seen the organization grow to new heights of membership, and then get socked hard by the pandemic. Through it all though there’s still a sense of community that I love and am proud to have been a part of.
2021 marked my final year as President of the Board and I will be stepping down on December 31st. Board members are limited to two 3 year terms and this is my fifth year of service. In order to help enable a smooth transition I will remain on the board for my final year as a regular at-large member, assisting new leadership as I can.
I’m incredibly grateful to this community for letting me serve in a leadership capacity for so many years. Yes there were struggles and hard times, but also incredible memories, friendships, and opportunities that I never would have had without this role. I believe that as an organization we’ve been able to help represent the sport of trail running to the world, and UMTR will continue to do this no matter who’s in charge.
I’m certainly not going away and will still be around and active as ever in the community. I look forward to more time on the trails with folks and continuing to share my love of this sport and it’s community whenever I am able.
