A cloudy eclipse

All the news on Monday was about the eclipse, and despite not being in the zone of totality, I thought it would be cool to at least be outside for it. My friend Michael and I decided to meet at a local restaurant and eat outside while we waited for the sky to darken a bit. However, off in the distance clouds were gathering.

At first we thought that they’d stay away long enough to still get to experience some effect, but then about 15 minutes before the event they rolled in thick and heavy. Needless to say, it was a bit of a disappointment. There were a couple areas of thin clouds that actually allowed us to look right at the eclipse and see it without damaging our eyes, but in general it was just mostly dark and grey.

Towards the end there were a few more breaks in the clouds that allowed us to get bathed in weird dim light, but it wasn’t quite what we were hoping for. It was still a nice day to be outside and be a part of something cool. However, I think next time we’ll plan to do a bit of traveling and see if we can experience the full event. Next one is 2024, so not that long to wait!
