A cooking experiment

As I mentioned in a recent post we want to start cooking more. The other night I opened up Thug Kitchen and gave one of the recipes a try. It was for a spicy cauliflower taco with slaw and avocado. I went to the store to pick up the things we didn’t have and set to work making it.

The recipe involved mixing up a sauce that you soak the cauliflower in, and then drain and coat with a spice mixture. Once it’s fully coated you put it in the oven for 20 minutes to roast. The book also had instructions on how to make your own salsa, as well as slaw. I decided for a first attempt to just use store bought.

I got everything done in less than an hour and we all sat down to eat. The cauliflower had a lot of flavor and actually has a nice late heat to it. When you add in the slice of avocado and some slaw it all came out really, really good. Even the teenagers/young-adults liked it (or at least liked it enough to not complain while they each scarfed down two tacos). It was fun to cook dinner again, because frankly I can’t remember the last time I cooked a meal in the kitchen. We’ve been eating out so much.

Next up, maybe something from the Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s cookbooks.
