New bluegrass music

As many know, I’m a fan of bluegrass music, both traditional and modern. In the past few years there have been a lot of new acts that have brought instruments such as the banjo and mandolin, back into mainstream music. One of the groups that I have enjoyed for a few years now are Duluth, MN natives, Trampled by Turtles. They fuse bluegrass with a modern sound that doesn’t lose sight of its roots. I still can’t help myself but blast Midnight on the Interstate when I’m driving along the North Shore at night.

Google Play music as radio stations based on artists and for the past few months I’ve been exposing myself to more and more acts that fit with the similar style of Trampled by Turtles. One of them that is a ton of fun is The Devil Makes Three (Google Play link). Their song Old Number 7 is a ton of fun, and they make a big sound with only three instruments.

Another great group, that I’ve even bought an album for is Greensky Bluegrass (Google Play link). They’re modern take on traditional bluegrass is clean and fresh and catchy. I’ve had their songs earworm-ing my brain most of the day (hence why I bought the album).

These are just a couple of the new acts I’ve discovered and been enjoying lately. I’m hopeful that Google keeps updating the station and I can find even more great music in this genre.

Beer, running, and geeky things.
