Today brought news that Nintendo has partnered with a mobile game maker to bring some of the more popular character franchises to smartphone games. So this means that in the future you may see games on iOS and Android that feature Mario, Luigi, Kirby, etc. along side other games in the app store. However, one of the main titles that I really want to see brought to other platforms is Pokemon.

I think that Pokemon would be an incredible smartphone game because it’s basically a turn based RPG style play system with movement controls that don’t require twitch reflexes or precision. It’s also the style of game that would lend itself to an always-connected device for battling with friends and strangers to level your Pokemon up. Pokemon is also already a mobile game, so the translation to another platform would fit nicely.

Who knows what Nintendo will eventually do, but I’m excited to see how this new future shakes out for their big franchises.
