Superheroes

Friday evening my kids asked if they could go out to eat, and my oldest wanted to hit The Source Comics. He’s been playing a lot of Batman video games lately and wanted to check out some of the Batman comics. I’ve never hidden the fact that I’m a comic nerd from them, and on the way to the store we had a great conversation about comics and superheroes.

We talked about costumes and what superpower we’d have if we were superheroes, and what our backstory would be. I shared a bunch of the backstories of superheroes from my youth and college years, and how they’ve changed over time. When we got to the store we got to wander around a look at all the different graphic novels and basically be geeks about comic books. In the end my oldest picked up a graphic novel that highlighted classic stories of the Batman villain Scarecrow.

It was a really great night of connecting with my kids on a topic that I can relate to them about. It’s been a lot of fun, as they’ve grown into young adults, to be able to share the things that I love with them, and have them respond, not in a kid way, but as an adult who also can talk intelligently about the topics. Feeling happy as a dad tonight.
