Saturday morning a bunch of us hit the Elm Creek Singletrack for an early morning loop. A couple of our faster runners headed out in front of us, while the majority of the pack stays back with a nice easy pace. Shortly before the 1 mile mark our two fast runners come back down the trail and tell us to walk quietly. We come around a curve and there are three owls in the trees above screeching at us. They flew around between trees above us, looking rather annoyed by our presence. I’m sure we were messing up their hunting area.
This is the first time I’ve actually seen owls in the wild and it was awesome to see these birds in flight. They’re such incredible creatures and amazing hunters. Needless to say, it made for an incredible start to a wonderful morning of running. Next time I need to hike in with my good camera.
