As a child of the 90s who grew up with only a couple of premium cable channels, The Garry Shandling show was a staple of my late night TV viewing. I spent many an hour watching his comedy both on his show, and when he would occasionally host the Tonight Show. In fact I remember rooting for him to take over the Tonight Show from Carson, but alas that never happened.
I was very saddened to see his sudden passing this week, and it reminded me of how many times I watched him in my childhood and teen years. Even when he didn’t get the Tonight Show gig, I still saw him all over the place. As many people have pointed out, he paved the way for some amazing comedy of the past couple decades, and his influence will not be soon forgotten.
One of the best tributes I’ve seen so far is from Conan O’Brien, so I’m going to leave this here. A wonderful tribute to a funny man.
