Sunday morning marked my final run for the month of January 2016. My 50 mile training program kicked into high gear, and my butt was solidly kicked in proportion. In fact January saw me complete the highest amount of monthly miles that I have ever completed. For January I completed just shy of 175 miles. My previous monthly high was 135 miles during my 50K training last year.
Needless to say I’m very pleased with how it’s going this month. Not only am I knocking out miles, I’m staying injury free as well. This does come at the cost of pace though. Spacing out my speed runs, and focusing more on endurance seems to be a key component in staying healthy and running the distances I want to run.
February promises to be just as high a mileage month, including a 31 mile Saturday long run as part of my training at the end of the month. There goes that weekend! For now, I get a day off from running on Monday. I wish I could say I will totally enjoy it, but the foam roller is calling my name.
