Late night wars in the stars

Last night I stayed up way too late to join a bunch of friends and see Star Wars The Force Awakens. Morning came very quickly today, as I didn’t fall into bed until 1am. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. I think it was a great addition to the Star Wars story, and was presented with great visuals and acting.

I’ve been debating how to write this review, as many of my friends and family haven’t seen the movie yet. Therefore, I think I’m going to wait until after I see it again this weekend to write up my proper review, and I’ll keep this post spoiler-free. This is a warning that the next time I talk about Star Wars though I won’t be holding back.

For now, I’ll simply answer the question, “Did it live up to the hype?” My feeling is that yes, it lived up to people’s expectations, and perhaps even surpassed them for some. The movie sets up a lot of new stories in a familiar universe, and I believe that the true legacy of The Force Awakens will be how the next two movies carry that story forward. If they can develop compelling, and unique, stories to tell, then the jumping off ground of episode 7 will be a success. If the next two episodes don’t succeed, then I think episode 7 will be judged as potential that never panned out.
