Something that has been a tradition my entire life is starting the Christmas season the day after Thanksgiving. Ever since I was a child this day is the day when you put up the Christmas tree and decorate it. When I got married I continued this tradition, and today my sons helped me keep the tradition alive.
Some things have changed over the years. For example, a newer tradition in the past decade has been to play Bing Crosby’s Merry Christmas album while putting up the tree. We’ve also started hanging lights in the boys room to enjoy over the season.
Much of the rest of Black Friday is spent relaxing and eating leftovers. Today we did manage to get out to a local park and participate in the whole #optoutside movement. It was 25 degrees out, so that made it a bit chillier than we would have liked, but we had a decent time anyway.
The Christmas season is upon us, and celebrating traditions like these make it all the more special to me.
