Keeping in the habit

So yesterday was the first day that I missed posting a blog entry since I started this journey at the start of the new year. Life has been a bit crazy lately. As my kids have gotten older, into their teenage years, they’ve started making decisions about their living arrangements with their mom and I. So currently, one of my kids is living with me more, and my other is with his mom more. This has been a strange and sudden adjustment with lots of emotions attached, but at the end of the day it really comes down to doing what the boys feel like they need in terms of stability in their lives.

This has a couple consequences, first, that I have been really busy and haven’t been as diligent with my blogging as I should be. But it also means that the family dynamic in my house is much different than it was a month ago. One of these positive features is that there are not a few people in the house who like playing board games. As a family tonight we broke out a game that we haven’t played in a long time, Carcassone. This is a great tile laying game where you’re building a city in a round-robin fashion, and claiming portions as you go. There’s a bit of strategy involved and you never truly know who’s won until the end of the game.

We also had some fun with it tonight, introducing my adult stepson to the game, when he set his meeples up on their side he decided that is team was a team of acrobats. My youngest decided that since his meeples were laying down they were dead, hence my wife and I were facing off against teams of acrobats and zombies. This resulted in some funny thoughts about combining zombies with acrobats, and we all had a fun time laughing at the jokes. It was a nice positive experience during a tumultuous time, and made for a really pleasant evening.
